Seed Company's branded variety - Zenith
zoysiagrass - has been established on one of the 20 stadium
fields to be used in World Cup 2002 Korea/Japan.
The Daejeon
stadium is located south of Seoul, Korea.
This stadium has been reserved for the second level matches between
those teams surviving the initial rounds. This will be the site
of the Friday, June 14, match between USA and Poland. ESPN
will cover the match - see local listings for time of broadcast.
The stadium will again see World Cup use on June 18, 2002.
The stadium is described by FIFA
(the World Governing authority for Soccer - Football) as follows:
"The Daejeon World Cup Stadium is a football-only
arena. It will be able to seat approximately 42,000 people and features
a semi-closed roof, the first of its kind to be constructed in Korea".
After the 2002 FIFA World CupT, the pitch will be reserved exclusively
for use by the city's professional football team, the Daejeon Citizen.
But the stadium will offer many other facilities, too -- its commercial,
cultural and leisure facilities, including the sports shop, shopping
mall, youth hostel, swimming pool, indoor golf clubs, fitness center
and the performance hall, will all be open to the general public."
Zenith
zoysiagrass is used on soccer, baseball and softball fields
as well as on golf courses in mild to hot climates around the world.
Zenith offers the unique advantage of being the first
improved zoysia hybrid - available as seed. Seeding Zenith is
less costly and faster than many turfing options.
The superior smooth and even ball bounce on a Zenith zoysia surface
will make Zenith the grass of choice for many sports fields and
pitches around the world.
